The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has released a sketch of the suspect who sexually assaulted a 14-year-old Belfair girl. According to a news release, the rape occurred on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM in the wooded area behind the tennis courts at Hawkins Middle School in the North Mason School District. The victim in Monday’s assault and robbery has died and murder charges are expected to be filed against the two arrested in the crime. According to a Mason County Sheriff’s Office news release, the victim, 23-year-old Shawn Joseph Morrow, died about 3 PM Wednesday at Saint Peter’s Hospital in Olympia. The Mason County Commissioners are seeking interested residents to serve on the recently created Advisory Committee for the Belfair Urban Growth Area. Mason County PUD No. 3 Linemen are working to restore electricity to an estimated 40 customers in Phillips Lake area. Officials say the outage was caused by series of underground cable faults.
The PUD 3 is also working to restore electricity to approximately 65 customers in the Wilson Way and Leffler Loop Road areas. This outage began at 4:30 PM.
The Washington State Department of Transportation is applying for emergency federal funds to repair Highway 3 in Mason County and Highway 501 in Clark County. Both State Routes were damaged by landslides. SR 3 is reduced to one lane north of Shelton between Oakland Bay Marina and the Manke Gravel Shoot. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Skokomish River. Forecasters say heavy rain over the southern Olympics last night and this morning has driven the River to the 16.5-foot flood stage. The Skokomish is expected to crest slightly above that level this evening and fall below flood stage late tonight. Only minor flooding is forecast.
