The Olympic League baseball battle of the North’s went to North Kitsap as the Vikings pounded North Mason 12 to 2 in six innings. The Bulldogs managed only four hits and were led by Jordan Young who went 2 for 3 at the plate stole a base and scored a run. Riley McKean was 1 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. The boys from Belfair dropped to 1-and-2 on the season. They play at Olympic Monday.
The Shelton boys’ soccer team lost at Stadium Friday night 7 to 1. The Highclimbers are 0-and-2 on the season and host Gig Harbor Monday.
All three track and field teams in Mason County gathered for a Jamboree at Shelton High School Friday. No specific results were available as the Shelton Highclimbers, North Mason Bulldogs, and Mary M. Knight Owls competed against each other in all events. A land slide has closed one lane of Highway 3 just outside Shelton. The slide has compromised the integrity of the northbound lane of SR-3 just north of Oakland Bay Marina. A Washington State Patrol Trooper narrowly escaped being struck by an impaired driver on U.S. Highway 101 in Mason County. According to a news release, the Trooper was on a traffic stop last Saturday night (March 10, 2012). He was stopped on the southbound should of 101 at milepost 355. A sex offender missing from Alaska may have returned to Washington and may be hiding in the Shelton area. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office says 31-year-old Adam Lee Inman is required to register as a sex offender due to a 2005 felony conviction in Alaska for Sexual Abuse of a Minor 3rd Degree. A sex offender recently released from custody is living as a transient in the Shelton area. According to a sex offender information bulletin, 26-year-old Robert Eugene VanderVort has registered with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office as a transient/homeless sex offender. Mason County PUD No. 3 linemen have restored power to all customers in the Lake Limerick area after an early morning outage. The outage started about 5:50 AM when a tree fell across power lines along Mason Lake Road near Emerald Lake. An estimated 1,600 customers lost power. All but 122 had their power restored about 7:30 AM when crews rerouted electricity feeds to the area. The remaining customers had their power restored at 10 AM.
