The Shelton City Commission will be holding a public hearing on creating the City’s second Historic District. The proposed Simpson/Reed Historic District consists of 31 parcels from Railroad Avenue to Birch Street between First and Fourth streets. Among the properties are the Shelton Post Office, Brewer Park, Memorial Hall, the City’s Public Safety Building, and the headquarters of Green Diamond and Simpson.

The City sent ballots to the effected property owners to find out whether they supported being in the Historic District or not and 23 voted in favor with only one against. The proposed Simpson/Reed Historic District would have regulations protecting the historic nature of the area identical to the North Sheltonville Historic Neighborhood Local Historic District created last year. The hearing is scheduled for July 18, 2011.
