A suspicious fire destroyed a recently completed storage/concession complex at the Shelton High School baseball field the morning of Sunday, September 4, 2011.

The two-story structure was fully involved when crews from Mason County Fire District 5 arrived. The fire was quickly extinguished but not before destroying the structure and its contents which were practice pads and other equipment for the Shelton football team. (The Highclimbers’ game gear is being stored in the locker room and was not damaged.) The cause of the fire is under investigation and officials are asking anyone with information to call 9-1-1 and ask for a fire investigator. This storage/concession stand was designed by Shelton Baseball Coach Erik Engstrom and was the senior project for two students at the High School. The completion of the building was a community effort and the last coat of paint was put on the building just a few days ago. The structure should be covered by the Shelton School District’s insurance.
