State Disciplines Health Care Provider
The Washington State Department of Health has taken disciplinary action against a health care provider in Mason County. According to a DOH summary of disciplinary actions, the Home Care Aide Program charged home care aide Melanie Rae McCowan with unprofessional conduct in August. While working at an assisted living facility, McCowan allegedly took a resident’s checks and cashed or deposited them for a total of $4,259. McCowan has 20 days to respond to the Department of Health in writing. The case then enters the settlement process. If no disciplinary agreement can be reached, the case will go to a hearing.
The department’s Health Systems Quality Assurance Division works with boards, commissions, and advisory committees to set licensing standards for more than 80 health care professions (e.g., medical doctors, nurses, counselors).
