Kathy Chaussee Announces Bid For County Commissioner
Longtime Mason County employee, Kathy Chaussee, has announced she will run for Mason County Commissioner District 3 – the seat currently held by Terri Drexler.
Chaussee has spent the past 17 years working for the County as an accountant in both the Mason County Auditor’s office and Community Services which she says gives her knowledge of the County’s budget structure.
In her announcement, Chaussee calls Mason County her home and says what she wants is for the County to be a safe, flourishing place for future generations. Chaussee is also committed to transparent, responsible government work.
She believes her background working for both the public sector and non-profit agencies has equipped her with the skills to meet the expectations of a county commissioner. And has taught her the fundamental differences between the state, city, and county government.
“During my employment with Mason County,” Chausee writes in her announcement, “I have listened, and I have learned. I understand our county—I understand its finances, the services it delivers, and the challenges it faces. In becoming a county commissioner, I will examine the issues, contemplate the anticipated short and long-term costs and benefits of county actions and projects, and work with the two other commissioners to ensure that the budget for this county is being used solely for the interest of the public.”
The announcement ends with: “What I want for our county is public participation and transparent budgeting of funds. What I want is to lend my knowledge of government finances to help set and meet a workable county budget. What I want for our county is safety, whether that be on the streets, or in clean air and water. I want to make a difference by working beside the people of Mason County towards the common vision of maintaining the excellence that already resides in our community, and determinedly working to improve our future.”
Chaussee is the second person to announce their intent to run for Mason County Commissioner District 3. Sharon Trask announced her candidacy last month after Drexler said she would NOT seek re-election this fall.
The official candidate filing period for this fall’s election is May 14th to May 18th. The Primary Election is August 7th. The General Election is November 6th.
