The legendary 1948-49 Olympic College men’s basketball team is among the second Ranger Athletics Hall of Fame class announced Thursday.

The celebration reception is scheduled for June 9 at OC’s Bremer Student Center.

“This second Hall of Fame class is outstanding,” said Athletic Director Barry Janusch. “Their accomplishments at OC and beyond are indicative of the rich history of OC athletics.”

The 1948-49 basketball team took fourth at the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament after winning both the conference and Regional III championships. Their coach, Phil Pesco, was inducted in last year’s inaugural Hall of Fame class.

The inductees also include track & field star Dick McKimson along with women’s basketball standout, Jill Bekar. McKimson single-handedly scored 17 points at the 1952 State Championship tournament by winning the javelin, the 100-yard sprint, the 880-yard race, and ran on the winning mile relay team.

Bekar helped the women’s basketball team to a 6th place finish at the NWAACC tournament in the 1996-97 season. She was named Northern Region MVP as well as a 2nd team NWAC All-Star.

Athletes, coaches and contributors were selected based on a range of criteria that includes accomplishments on the field and in the classroom, contributions to the programs, and achievements in public life.
