Booking restrictions at the Mason County Jail have hampered the Shelton Police Department after recent narcotics arrests.

At approximately 9:00 PM on October 8th, Shelton Police Officers located a suspicious vehicle with two male occupants parked illegally in the 700 block of N. 7th Street. During the initial contact, officers identified what appeared to be a large amount of narcotics lying on the floorboard inside the vehicle. The two occupants were removed from the vehicle and detained while the suspected narcotics were recovered.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, which lead to the discovery of over 184 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 13 grams of heroin, a digital scale, and several hypodermic needles. The approximate street value of the narcotics is more than $15,000.

Officers determined that both suspects had outstanding felony warrants. However, due to current booking restrictions in Mason County, officers were unable to transport the suspects to the Mason County Jail for booking.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old Shelton man, has felony warrants for his arrest from the Mason County Superior Court for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer, and Resisting Arrest. Because of the booking restrictions in Mason County, he was released.

The passenger, a 35-year-old Shelton man, had felony warrants for his arrest through the Washington State Department of Corrections. Booking restrictions in Mason County required Shelton Officers to transport the suspect to a facility in Thurston County for processing on the warrants issued by the Department of Correction.

As a result of the current booking restrictions in Mason County, the case will be submitted to the Mason County Prosecutor for charges at a later date.
