The Shelton boys’ basketball team opened South Sound Conference play Wednesday with a 58 to 57 win over Peninsula.

The Highclimbers rallied from nine points down in the first quarter to lead by five in the fourth. The Seahawks nearly pulled it out in the end taking advantage of a Shelton turnover with only seconds left to get with in a point.

The ‘Climbers were led by Kyler Gall’s 15 points and Ty Thompson’s 14 points.

Peninsula had three players score in double digit: Roman Bockhorn hit four three-pointers and finished with 16 points; Tyler Spurlock also scored 16 points; and Dane Jackson chipped in 13.

Shelton improves to 3-and-0 on the season, 1-and-0 in the SSC. The Highclimbers play at Yelm Friday.

The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team knocked off Crescent Wednesday 62 to 46. The Owls built a 10-point halftime lead which the Loggers couldn’t overcome. The boys from Matlock are now 2-and-1 on the season. They host Naselle Saturday.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team dropped its first game of the season falling at Olympic 54 to 31. The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-and-1 on the season, 0-and-1 in the Olympic League. They host Sequim Friday.

The North Mason boys’ basketball team fell to Olympic 61 to 48. The Bulldogs are now 3-and-3 on the season, 0-and-1 in the Olympic League. They travel to Sequim Friday.
