Shelton Softball Drops Tune Up Game
The Shelton fast pitch softball team lost a District tune up game Tuesday to North Kitsap 7 to 4.
The Lady Highclimbers (3A South Sound Conference #4 team) and the Lady Vikings (who won the 2A Olympic League) played in the rain at MCRA as both teams prepare for their respective District tournaments.
Shelton’s Taya Gouley scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the 1st inning with two out when Rosemary Hughes reached on a error at first base. Earlier in the inning, Gouley stole 3rd sliding under the tag.
The game remained 1-0 until the top of the 4th inning when NK got to ‘Climber pitcher Phoenix Miller scoring five runs. Miller allowed the five runs on eight hits while striking out six and walking three in her four innings.
Shelton got two runs back in the bottom of the 5th on Kamryn Hyland’s two-run single that scored Emma Schultz and Gouley.
North Kitsap added two runs in the 6th inning off relief pitcher Hyland.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Highclimbers got three base runners with Gouley walking to lead off and later scoring Shelton’s final run on a wild pitch. Hyland and Alex Walters had singles but were left on base as Alyssa Wilhite, Patricia Dugger and Kayla Zembas were retired in order to end the game.
The Highclimbers left nine runners stranded on base in the loss and head to the WCD / SW District Tournament with a 9-and-11 overall record. Shelton plays Spanaway Lake at 2 PM Thursday in their first game at District. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast the game live.
