Mason County’s unemployment rate held steady from April to May. According to Washington State Employment Security Department, the preliminary rate for the County last month was 5.8 percent the same as April’s revised rate but eight-tenths of a percentage point lower than May 2021’s rate of 6.6 percent.

Adjacent counties saw little or no change in their unemployment rates. Grays Harbor (6.6%), Jefferson (5.1%) and Thurston (4.3%) counties’ rates increased one-tenth of a percent. Kitsap (4%) and Pierce (4.9%) remained the same from April to May.
