Mason County’s unemployment rate rose in August. According to Washington State Employment Security, the County’s unemployment rate went up nearly a percent from July to August. Preliminary figures show Mason County’s unemployment rate last month was 6 percent. That is up nine-tenth of a percentage point from July’s revised rate of 5.1 percent but 1.1 percent lower than August 2021’s rate of 7.1 percent.

Adjacent counties saw a similar increase in August. Jefferson County saw a six-tenth of a percent increase to 5.1 percent. There were seven-tenths of a percent increase in unemployment for Kitsap (4.2%), Thurston (4.4%) and Pierce (4.9%) counties. And Grays Harbor County saw an increase of nine-tenth of a percentage point to 6.5 percent.
