During the special meeting, District Superintendent Dana Rosenbach explained that the failure of the levy will likely lead to a reduction in force (RIF) and the potential loss of 18 staff members supported by levy dollars as well as other services not considered basic education. The Superintendent also said the District only has one more opportunity to send the replacement levy back to voters this year – the earliest to do so would be a special election in April and the deadline to make that election is later this month.

School Board members decided to wait before making a decision on sending the levy back to voters and reconvene the District’s Levy Committee to renew discussions with residents. In the meantime, the District will need to send Reduction in Force notices to staff.

At the last count, the North Mason School District’s levy was failing with 53.34% voting against the measure. That’s 2,276 voting “No” and 1,991 voting “Yes”.
