[VIDEO] Mason County Coroner Jaime Taylor alerted the Mason County Commission this week of an increase in fentanyl overdose deaths. In her briefing Monday, Coroner Taylor said they are seeing clusters of deaths in those over 50 years old.

Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opiate used in illegal substances and has a high risk for addiction and dependence. It can cause respiratory distress and death when taken in high doses or when combined with other substances, especially alcohol or other illicit drugs.

According to Taylor, the batch of fentanyl being used right now is even more potent and dangerous.
