Battery Backup and 911 Notice and Waiver
Hood Canal Communications (“HCC”) is providing telecommunications service to the undersigned Customer through the use of a cable modem, ONT or VOIP located inside the Customer’s premises. In order for E-911 services to be available to Customer, HCC has notified the appropriate entities engaged in the provisioning of E-911 service that the telecommunications service of Customer is located at the premise address set forth below.
If the equipment is moved to another location, E-911 service will not function properly and emergency services may not be available to Customer and Customer’s family and friends in a timely manner. Use of the cable modem, ONT or VOIP service in another location to dial 911 will cause the 911 response to reply to the physical address of the premises set forth below.
CUSTOMER WARRANTS AND REPRESENTS THAT IT SHALL NOT MOVE THE LOCATION OF THE CABLE MODEM, ONT or VOIP UNIT OUTSIDE OF THE PREMISES LISTED BELOW WITHOUT THE PRIOR WRITTEN PERMISSION OF HCC.
CUSTOMER FURTHER WARRANTS AND REPRESENTS TO HCC THAT ANY MOVEMENT OF THE CABLE MODEM, ONT OR VOIP SERVICE WILL RESULT IN CUSTOMER INDEMNIFYING AND HOLDING HCC, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES AND AGENTS HARMLESS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROVISION OF OR LACK OF PROVISION OF E-911 SERVICES.
SIP/VoIP units (PUD fiber phone service): This type of phone service will NOT work in the event of a power outage. The PUD network that it utilizes does not have a battery backup option.
MTA units (Cable modem phone service): This type of phone service will only work in the event of a power outage for the length of time the system’s battery backup will run. This could be anywhere from 2-4 hours. HCC will include one battery backup with new phone service at no charge. The backup battery will not be replaced by HCC when it expires or goes bad. Even with the battery backup, phone service will not remain active for longer than the cable network limitations regardless of the battery run time in the MTA.
ONTs (FTTH phone service): This type of phone service will work in the event of a power outage as long as a battery backup unit is employed. HCC will include one 8-hour battery backup with new phone service at no charge upon installation. The backup battery will not be replaced by HCC when it expires or goes bad. 8 hours of standby power is available with this complimentary battery.
Purchasing and replacement options:
If you wish, you can purchase your own longer length battery backup unit or UPS through your local retail store, which may extend your standby power beyond the 8 hour battery which is provided at no charge with new service.
