The eight recipients of 2014 Mark E. Reed Scholarships were recently named by the program’s Washington Board. According to Kevin Lyle, board chairman, the winners each received $3,000 awards on June 5, 2014, after touring Green Diamond Resource Company timberlands and a dinner celebration at the historic Colonial House.

This is the 67th year that scholarships have been presented in the memory of Mark E. Reed, who was Simpson Logging Company president from 1914 until his death in 1933. Eligible individuals must be Green Diamond employees, sons or daughters of employees, or reside in one of the company’s Washington operating communities. The 2014 scholarship recipients are:
Kathryn Myers graduated in 2011 from Shelton High School. She attends Washington State University and is majoring in Biology. Her parents are Steven and Mary Myers of Shelton. This is Kathryn’s fourth scholarship.
Sarah Myers is a 2013 graduate from Shelton High School. She has set an ambitious goal to double major in History and Global Studies with a minor in Hispanic Studies at Pacific Lutheran University. Her parents are also Steven and Mary Myers of Shelton. This is Sarah’s second scholarship
Meghan Ranney, a graduate from Shelton High School, will be attending Washington State University in the fall to study Wildlife Ecology. Her parents are Scott and Candy Ranney of Shelton.
Serena Ranney, twin sister of Meghan, is also graduating from Shelton High School this year and plans to attend Washington State University to pursue a degree in Mathematics.
Rayna Ashlock is a 2014 graduate of Montesano High School, who plans to attend Oregon State University to pursue a career in athletic training. Rayna’s parents are Andrew Ashlock and Dianne Dowler of Montesano.
Megan Custis, a 2013 graduate from Elma High School, is a sophomore at the University of Arizona, studying nursing. Her parents are Paul and Elizabeth Custis of McCleary. This is Megan’s second scholarship.
Chaz Martinez, a 2014 Elma High School graduate, is currently attending South Puget Sound Community College with plans to transfer to Eastern Washington University. He will major in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. His parents are James and Julie Martinez of McCleary.
Logan Zepp, graduated from Elma High School in 2013. He attends the University of Idaho and is a Marketing major. His parents are Albert and Sandra Zepp of Elma.
