The unemployment rate in Mason County dropped for the second time in two months to 7.3 percent in March. According to the State Employment Security Department, that’s down seven-tenths of a percentage point from the revised rate for February of 8 percent and down nine-tenths of a percent from March 2016’s 8.2 percent rate. The 7.3 percent rate last month is also the lowest unemployment rate since last November’s 7.2 percent and matches the rate for last October.

Adjacent counties also saw decreases in unemployment in March with Jefferson County dropping seven-tenths of a percent to 6.5%; Lewis (7.6%) and Thurston (5.3%) counties dropping four-tenths of a percent; Kitsap decreasing three-tenths to 5.2%; and Grays Harbor (8.2%) and Pierce (5.8%) counties down two-tenths of a percent.

Washington’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from 4.9 to 4.7 percent in March – the lowest rate since August 2007.
