The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjoining areas from June 18, 2017 to June 24, 2017.

CONSTRUCTION

SR 3 – Belfair Area – Widening and Safety Improvements

Highway: SR 3   Region: Olympic   County: Mason  Location: Milepost(s) 25.3 to 27
Description: This widening project will extend the center turn lane and provide paved shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of SR 3. The improvements are intended to be built in two separate stages.

Work schedule:  Drivers can expect alternating one-way traffic with flaggers during nighttime work.

SR 119 (Lake Cushman Road) chip seal
Highway: SR 119 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s)
Description: Crews will resurface portions of SR 119 in areas between milepost .08 to 7.2
Work schedule: Drivers can expect reduced speed limits to 35 mph in the work zones. Drivers can expect one-way alternating traffic with a pilot car.

SR 302 – N of E Victor Rd – Culvert Replacement Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Mason  Location: Milepost(s) 4.5
Description: Crews will replace two failing culverts and install infrastructure to help stabilize the highway.

Work schedule: SR 302 at milepost 4.5 near Victor is closed to all traffic for construction through 8 a.m. Sunday, June 25. Local access will be allowed to but not through the work zone. Detour routes will be in place allowing drivers to bypass the closure by using SR 3 and SR 16.

SR 8 – Middle and East Forks Wildcat Creek – Remove Fish Barriers
Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 4.3 to 7.5
Description: Crews will remove barriers to fish by constructing bridges across the Middle and East Forks of Wildcat Creek.

Work schedule: Westbound SR 8 is reconfigured to accommodate both directions of traffic. The SR 8 speed limit in the area is reduced to 45 mph. This reconfiguration is illustrated in this YouTube video.

The intersection of SR 8 and SR 108 in McCleary is closed to all traffic around the clock through summer 2019. During the closure, drivers headed to McCleary will be directed to the Mox Chehalis Road interchange.

MAINTENANCE 

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 331.6 to 331.9
Description: Utility work. Drivers can expect to encounter one-way traffic control using flaggers.
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 21.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 346.8
Description: Bridge joint repair. Drivers can expect one-way alternating traffic.
Work Schedule: 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, until 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 21.

Highway: SR 106 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 6
Description: Utility crews will conduct vegetation management. Drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic.
Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22.

Highway: SR 300 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) .6 to .7
Description: Asphalt repair. Drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, June 19. directed to the Mox Chehalis Road interchange.

SR 8 W of Old Sand Crk. Rd. to Jct. US 101 – Paving
Highway: 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 6.75 – 11.5 and 17.25 – 20.63
Description: Crews will repave sections of SR 8 between US 101 in Thurston County and McCleary.
Work Schedule: While work is under way, portions of westbound SR 8 will reduce to one lane. The single-lane closures are scheduled to occur between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. each weekday. Weather permitting, the work will be complete before July.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Thurston Location: Milepost(s) 365.6
Description: Northbound right lane closure for expansion joint repair.
Work Schedule: 10 p.m. Monday, June 19 to 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 20.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 281.5 to 282
Description: Utility work. Drivers can expect a shoulder closure.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through June 16.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 274.65 to 294
Description: Vegetation management. Drivers in both directions can expect to encounter shoulder closures.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 8-29.

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 7 to 5.5
Description: Vegetation management. Drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 19-20.

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 10.1
Description: Utility work. Drivers can expect alternating one-way traffic.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20.

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 13.1
Description: Utility work. Drivers can expect shoulder closures in both directions.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 19-21.

Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

  • Pay attention – Driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.
  • Leave room between you and the car ahead of you – Most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively – be aware of what is happening around you.
  • Merge before you reach the work zone.
  • Don’t use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.
