Mason County’s unemployment rate held steady in May. According to the Washington State Employment Security Department, the county’s unemployment rate last month was 6.5 percent matching April’s revised rate and is a percentage point less than May 2016’s rate of 7.5 percent.
Most adjacent counties saw minimal change or no change in the unemployment in May. The exception was Grays Harbor County where the unemployment rate dropped six-tenths of a percent to 6.9 percent. Jefferson (5.9%) and Lewis (6.4%) counties dropped two-tenths of a percent. Kitsap (4.9%) and Thurston (4.7%) counties dropped one-tenth of a percent. Pierce County’s unemployment rate last month stayed the same at 5.2%.
