The Shelton girls’ basketball team lost their first round game in the 2018 Class 3A West Central / Southwest District Basketball Tournament to Kelso Wednesday night 68 to 55. The Highclimbers fell behind early and couldn’t overcome 21 turnovers in the game broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

The Hilanders built a 16-point lead in the second quarter and expanded it to 18 in the second half behind Alexis Kleven’s 25 points. The Kelso sophomore hit six three-pointers.

Shelton did make a run and closed the gap to 10 points in the fourth quarter but couldn’t finish the comeback. The ‘Climbers were led in the loss by Kylind Powell’s 18 points. Jasmine Griffin added 13. Kayla Gairns chipped in 10. Taya Gouley and Timber Ware scored 5 points each. Jordyn Peterson hit a three. And Katie Johnson made one for two free throws.

Shelton drops into the consolation bracket of the double elimination tournament. They take on North Thurston (NT lost at Bethel in the first round 73 to 31) Friday on the Rams’ home court. Tip off in Lacey is 6 PM. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast that game as well.

The Highclimbers has beaten North Thurston twice this season.
