Identity of Suspect Shot by Deputy Released
Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell has released the name of the person who died as a result of an officer involved shooting in Mason County on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
The deceased has been identified as Kathryn R. Hale, age 32, a resident of Mason County.
Autopsy to be performed on Thursday.
The shooting is being investigated by the Region III Critical Incident Investigation Team (CIIT) which includes the sheriff offices from Thurston, Lewis, Grays Harbor, Mason and Pacific counties, and the Washington State Patrol. The Thurston County Sheriff’s is leading the investigation.
According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, a Deputy was on foot when Hale allegedly tried to run him over. The Deputy was hit by the vehicle and at some point fired his weapon at Hale. A short pursuit ensued and ended after a few miles. Deputies and EMS rendered aid to Hale but she died on the way to the hospital.
