A motorcyclist was flown to a Seattle hospital after striking a car on Highway 3 near Mason Benson Road Tuesday.

The motorcyclist was southbound on State Route 3 about 5 PM. The Washington State Patrol says the motorcycle passed a semi truck in a no passing zone and struck a northbound car that was turning left onto Mason Benson Road. The motorcycle came to rest in the ditch 20 feet from the collision scene.

The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old Olympia man, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The driver of the car, a 31-year-old Shelton woman, was not injured.

A press memo indicates that unsafe passing and speed caused the crash.
