Initial Primary Election results show incumbents fairing well and fire levies passing after ballots were counted Tuesday night.

In the three-person race for Mason County Commissioner District 3, Democrat Miguel Gutierrez leads with 1,787 votes (43.93%), followed by incumbent Republican Sharon Trask with 1,211 (29.77%), and then Republican Mark Carlson with 1,068 votes (26.28%). The top two candidates face off in the General Election.
In the four-person race for Mason County PUD 3 Commissioner District 1 (the seat currently held by Linda Gott), Juli Tuson leads with 1,661 votes (35.42%) followed by Randy Lewis with 1,555 (33.16%), Marty Crow with 750 votes (15.99%) and Brianna Sheetz 697 votes (14.86%). The top two vote getters advance to November’s General Election and appear to be Tuson and Lewis.
Initial numbers show all fire levies receiving over 60 percent approval.
The City of Shelton’s Emergency Medical Services Levy has 60.98% approval with 800 voting “Ye” and 512 voting “No”.
Mason County Fire District 4’s Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services Property Tax Levy has 62.83% approval with 1,146 voting “Yes” and 678 voting “No”.
In Mason County Fire District 5 (Central Mason Fire and EMS), 63.75% of the voters are in favor ot the proposition restoring the Fire District’s property tax levy. That’s 2,744 voting “Yes” and 1,560 voting “No”.
Mason County Fire District 11’s EMS regular property tax levy has overwhelming support with 74.07% approval. That’s 357 Island Lake resident voting “Yes” and 125 voting “No”.
Primary Election results for Mason County Assessor has incumbent Patti McLean with 8,542 votes (60.35%) to challenger George Blush’s 5,573 (39.37%).
In the race for Mason County Auditor, incumbent Paddy McGuire has 7,519 votes (52.31%) to challenger Steve Duenkel’s 6,839 (47.58%).
For Mason County Clerk, incumbent Sharon Fogo has 7,360 votes (51.56%) to challenger Charles Rhodes’ 6,894 votes (48.29%).
In the four-person race for 35th Legislative District State Representative Position 2 (the seat currently held by Drew MacEwan), Democrat Sandy Kaiser leads with 14,036 votes (47.19%), followed by Republican Travis Couture with 7,582 votes (25.49%), then Republican Patti Case with 5,058 votes (17%) and Republican Tiffany Sevruk with 3,051 votes (10.26%). The top two vote getters will be on the General Election Ballot.
In the race for 35th Legislative District State Representative Position 1, incumbent Republican Dan Griffey leads Democrat James DeHart 16,517 votes (44.61%) to 13,326 (44.61%).
In the race for 35th Legislative State Senator (the seat currently held by Tim Sheldon), Republican Drew MacEwen leads Democrat Julianne Gale 15,831 votes (52.93%) to 14,044 (46.95%).
In the six-person race for 6th Congressional District U.S. Representative, incumbent Democrat Derek Kilmer has 52.61%, followed by Republican Elizabeth Kreiselmaier with 22.76%. Republican Todd Bloom is next with 10.24%. Then Democrat Rebecca Parson with 8.57%. Republican Chris Binns with 4.56%. And then Independent Tom Triggs with 1.2%. It appears Kilmer and Kreiselmaier will face off in November.
The top two vote getters for U.S. Senator are incumbent Democrat Patty Murray with 54% and Republican Tiffany Smiley with 31.96%.
In the race for Washington State Secretary of State, incumbent Democrat Steve Hobbs is the leader with 41.2%. While there is a close race for the second spot. Nonpartisan Julie Anderson has 12.85%, followed by Republican Bob Hagglund with 12.36% and then Keith Wagoner with 12.16%.
More ballots will be counted in the coming days.
