Election officials with the Mason County Auditor’s Office certified the August 2nd Primary Election on Tuesday.

Officially, Democrat Miguel Gutierrez and incumbent Republican Sharon Trask will face off in the General Election for Mason County Commissioner District 3. Gutierrez finished with 2,387 votes (43.03%) and Trask had 1,666 (40.05%). The third candidate in the race, Republican Mark Carlson, ended up with 1,487 votes (26.82%). And there were four write-in votes (0.07%).

The top two candidates for Mason County PUD 3 Commissioner District 1 (the seat currently held by Linda Gott who is retiring) are Juli Tuson and Randy Lewis. Tuson garnered 2,156 votes (34.88%) and Lewis had 2,017 (32.63%). The other two candidates in this race were Marty Crow (1,004 votes – 16.24%) and Brianna Sheetz (965 votes – 16.71%).

The closest race on the Primary Ballot was for Mason County Clerk with eight votes separating incumbent Democrat Sharon Moore-Fogo and Republican challenger Charles Rhodes. Moore-Fogo received 9,897 votes (49.96%) and Rhodes got 9,989 votes (49.92%) with 24 write-in votes (0.12%). The two will face off again in November.

The Primary Election results for Mason County Assessor show Independent incumbent Patti McLean with 11,542 votes (58.8%) and Republican challenger George Blush with 8,044 votes (40.98%) with 44 write-in votes (0.22%). McLean and Blush will be on the ballot again in November.

There are 308 votes separating the candidates in the race for Mason County Auditor. Incumbent Democrat Paddy McGuire with 10,115 votes (50.72%) and Republican Steve Duenkel with 9,807 votes (49.18%). There are 20 write-in votes (0.1%). The General Election will feature McGuire and Duenkel.

For Mason County Coroner, 95.46% (14,268) voted for Jaime Taylor with 678 write-ins.
For Mason County Prosecutor, 95.18% (13,644) voted for Michael Dorcy with 691 write-ins.
For Mason County Sheriff, 95.33% (14,178) voted for Ryan Spurling with 694 write-ins. There was an official write-in candidate for Sheriff, Tyler Elliott, who reportedly received 18 votes but needed over 141 (1%) to qualify for the General Election.
For Mason County Treasurer, 94.09% (13,614) voted for Lisa Frazier with 855 write-ins.

All fire levies on the ballot received over 60 percent approval.
The City of Shelton’s Emergency Medical Services Levy had 60.69% approval with 1,110 voting “Yes” and 717 voting “No”.
Mason County Fire District 4’s Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services Property Tax Levy got 62.57% approval with 1,546 voting “Yes” and 925 voting “No”.
In Mason County Fire District 5 (Central Mason Fire and EMS), 62.81% of the voters are in favor of the proposition restoring the Fire District’s property tax levy. That’s 3,698 voting “Yes” and 2,190 voting “No”.
Mason County Fire District 11’s EMS regular property tax levy received 73.27% approval. That’s 455 Island Lake resident voting “Yes” and 166 voting “No”.

In the four-person race for 35th Legislative District State Representative Position 2 (the seat currently held by Drew MacEwen who is running for State Senate), Democrat Sandy Kaiser and Republican Travis Couture will face off in November. Kaiser finished with 22,224 votes (45.26%) and Couture received 13,226 votes (26.94%). The other two Republicans in the race were Patti Case (8.299 votes 16.9%) and Tiffany Sevruk (5,325 votes (10.84%).

In the race for 35th Legislative District State Representative Position 1, incumbent Republican Dan Griffey finished with 28,288 votes (57.39%) with Democrat James DeHart had 20,956 votes (43.51%). Both will be on General Election ballot.

In the race for 35th Legislative State Senator (the seat currently held by Tim Sheldon who is retiring), Republican Drew MacEwen drew 54.96% (27,174 votes) to Democrat Julianne Gale’s 44.92% (22,211 votes). The two will be on the November ballot.

Incumbent Democrat Derek Kilmer will face Republican Elizabeth Kreiselmaier in the General Election for 6th Congressional District U.S. Representative. Kilmer garnered 50.36% of the vote (115,725 votes) in the primary while Kreiselmaier received 23.77% (54,621 votes).

The top two vote getters for U.S. Senator are incumbent Democrat Patty Murray with 52.22% and Republican Tiffany Smiley with 33.69%.

In the race for Washington State Secretary of State, incumbent Democrat Steve Hobbs will face nonpartisan Julie Anderson in the General Election. Hobbs received 39.93% of the vote in the primary while Anderson garnered 12.81%.Republican Keith Wagoner was a close third with 12.16% followed by Republican Bob Hagglund with 12.05%.

Voter turnout in Mason County was 46.96%. Voter turnout in the state was 40.43%.
