Fire crews remain on the scene of a wildfire burning near the High Steel Bridge southwest of Lake Cushman.

The “High Steel Fire” was first reported Wednesday east of Forest Service Road 2340, north of Simpson Road 8200 at an elevation above 600 feet. The estimated size of the fire is 26 acres, all on U.S. Forest Service land. Officials say there is a “minimal to low chance” of this fire growing larger in the next 24 hours. Smoke may be visible throughout the Hood Canal. Visitors should avoid the High Steel Bridge area to ensure operations can continue safely.
The High Steel Fire is largest of the five “active” wildfires in Mason County. However, the other “active” fires have been reported as “contained” or “out” except for the Arrowhead Fire which is “In patrol”. The Arrowhead Fire has an estimated size of 3.8 acres and is 6.2 mles west-northwest of McCleary. More specific location is on the hill east of Satsop-Cloquallum Road near the intersection with Incline Road 6000.
There have been 13 wildfires reported in the County this summer.
