Candidate filing for this fall’s election is a month away. This year candidate filing will occur on Monday, May 15th through Friday, May 19th.
There are 72 positions open for filing including Mason County Superior Court Judge Position 1 (currently held by Cadine Ferguson-Brown).
There are three seats on the Shelton City Council up for re-election: Council Member No. 1 (currently held by James boad), Council Member No. 2 (currently held by Kathy McDowell). and Council Member No. 5 (currenlty held by Deidre Peterson).
Several school districts have multiple seats up for election including four on the Shelton School Board (seats currenlty held by Sandy Tarzwell, Lauren Gilmore, Karla Knudsen-Johnston, and Keri Davidson); four on the Pioneer School Board (seats held by Stephanie Schlitz, Richard Lee, Rober Clerk and Ellory Rowe); and four on the Hood Canal School Board (seats held by Kimberly Miller, Annie Robins, James Harris and an open seat).
North Mason (Erik Youngberg, Laura Boad, John Campbell), Southside (Heather Stoffle, Laurie cos, Brianna Rasmussen), Grapeview (Wes Martin, James Snyder, Les Okanek), and Mary M. Knight (Alexander Ushman, Cynthia Brehmeyer, Amanda Gonzales) school boards have three openings.
Two Port of Shelton Commissioners are up for re-election: Dick Taylor and Sue Patterson.
Port of Allyn Commission has one opening, the seat currently held by Ted Jackson.
Two seats on the Port of Grapeview Commission (seats held by Arthur Whitson Jr. and Michael Blaisdell) are up this year.
Mason County Public Hospital District 1 Commissioner Position No. 2 (the seat held by Donald Welander) and Mason County Public Hospital District 2 Commissioners Positions No. 2 and No. 4 (the seats held by Tommy Thombs and Kaye Massie) are up for election this year.

Filing can be done online, in person or by mail.
Online filing opens at 9:00 am on Monday, May 15th and is open 24 hours a day until it closes promptly at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 19th. The link to file online will be available on the Mason Count Elections website: https://masoncountywaelections.gov/
File in person in the Elections Office, during business hours, starting 9:00 am Monday, May 15th through 4:00 pm Friday, May 19th.
Mailing your declaration of candidacy? It must be received no later than 4:00 pm on Friday May 19th; the postmarks does not validate when it’s received.
