The first day of candidate filing for this fall’s election was Monday and saw 32 people file for 30 offices.
Topping the list was Cadine Ferguson-Brown filing to remain Mason County Superior Court Judge Position 1. Ferguson-Brown was appointed to the seat in May 2022 after the retirement of Judge Amber Finlay.
There were two filings for Shelton City Council. Kathy McDowell filed to retain her Council Member No. 2 seat. George Blush filed for Council Member No. 1 – the seat currently held by James Boad.
Don Welander filed to remain Public Hospital District 1 (the governing body for Mason Health) Commissioner Position No. 2. Welander was appointed to the seat last November following the retirement of Don Wilson.
The two incumbents on the Port of Shelton Commission filed to retain their positions. Sue Patterson filed for Port Commissioner Position No. 1 and Dick Taylor filed for Port Commissioner Position No. 2.
In the Port of Hoodsport, Lori Kincannon filed to retain her Port Commissioner Position No. 2 seat.
For Shelton School Board, incumbent Keri Davidson filed to retain her School Board Director Position No. 2 seat. Andrew Wilford filed for School Board Director District No. 2 – the seat currently held by Lauren Gilmore. And Sherri Heise filed for School Board Director Position No. 1 – the seat currently held by Karla Knudsen-Johnston.
A race is developing for Pioneer School Board Director Position No. 3 as Robert Clark and Jim Christie have both filed for the seat. Ellory Rowe filed for Pioneer School Board Director Position No. 4.
There were several filings for Fire District Commissioner including Nicholas Jones filing for Fire District 12 Commissioner Position No. 2. And Patrick O’Brien and Jenni Glasco filing for Fire District 17 Commissioner Position No. 2.

If more than two candidates file for one seat, they face off in the Primary Election on August 1st. Otherwise the candidates appear on the November 7th General Election Ballot.
