Win for SHS Boys Hoops; Loss for SHS Girls Hoop; NM Wrestling Results

The Shelton boys’ basketball team won their third game in a row and four of their last five games Friday, holding off Elma 45 to 41.

The Highclimbers built a 12-point lead in the first quarter but the Eagles rallied in the second with Cason Seaberg hitting three three-pointers and Elma led 25 to 23 at the half.

The ‘Climbers’ changed their defense in the third quarter, putting Gabe Conklin on Seaberg, and the game was tied at 35 heading into the fourth quarter.

The back and fourth low scoring fourth quarter saw Shelton make three field goals and 4 of 7 free throws while Elma had two baskets and 2 of 5 free throws. The difference was holding Seaberg to four points in the second half after the senior guard scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the first half.

The Highclimbers were led in scoring by Weetly Cordova’s 15 points. Omar Zepeda-Soto added 11 points and had six steals. Journey Bear Perez finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds. And Conklin dished out 6 assists.

Shelton improved to 4-and-6 on the season. They return to 2A Evergreen Conference play Tuesday with a road game at Centralia.


The Shelton girls basketball team wrapped up play in the Vince Dulcich Memorial Tournament at Astoria High School Friday with a loss to R.A. Long. The score was not reported but Coach Chris Swanson told MasonWebTV Powered by HCC that hit team was up two after three quarters but fell by 12 in the end. The Coach said Abbi Sachs had a good tournament as the Lady-‘Climbers picked up their first win of the season on Thursday. The Shelton girls’ next game is Wednesday at home against Centralia on MasonWebTV and KMAS.


At the North Mason Hawkins Memorial Winter Classic Wrestling Tournament in Belfair Friday, the host Bulldogs finished 4th behind Central Kitsap, Gig Harbor and North Kitsap.

Three boys from Belfair took championships with seven others placing.

Sean Evans won the championship at 113 pounds.
Andres Salvador won the championship at 132 pounds.
Pedro Salvador won the championship at 165 pounds.

Chance Corwin took 2nd at 285 pounds.
Xavier Powell was 3rd at 120 pounds.
Gavin McFarland took 3rd at 126 pounds.
Charles Broughton finished 3rd at 150 pounds.
Jose Gaspar placed 4th at 144 pounds.
Cooper Stapleton placed 4th at 157 pounds.
Jayse Gasca was 4th at 175 pounds.
