[VIDEO] Friday, the Mason County Commission appointed Trina Young and David Persell as Fire Commissioners for Mason County Fire District No. 12.
Young and Persell were among the seven Matlock area residents to apply for the Fire Commission following the resignation of the three previous Fire Commissioners (Cinda Compton, Kelli Walsworth and Nick Jones) last Sunday.
The resignations came after the Fire District lost its insurance and the Mason County Commission’s approval of a Disaster Declaration due to Mason County Fire District No. 12’s inability to respond to emergency calls. Since the Disaster Declaration, a couple dozen volunteers have been responding to calls in Mason County Fire District 12.
The Mason County Commissioners interviewed all seven applicants Friday morning and made the appointments following a short executive session. (Click here to watch the interviews and action.)
Trina Young and David Persell then took the Oath of Office.
The two new Fire Commissioners will now begin the process of rebuilding the Matlock Fire Department which will include hiring a secretary and fire chief, and appointing a third commissioner.
