A motorcycle struck a bear on U.S. Highway 101 Saturday afternoon.

The Washington State Patrol says the motorcycle was southbound on 101 about 2 PM. At milepost 298 (which is near Falls View Campground in the Olympic National Park), a bear was attempting to cross traffic from the southbound shoulder. The motorcycle struck the bear and came to rest in the southbound lane.

The 68-year-old Tahuya man riding the bike was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
