Both SHS Hoops Teams Win; Win for MMK Girls’ Hoops; Losses for MMK Boys’ Hoops and Both NM Hoops Teams

The Shelton girls’ basketball team rolled past another opponent Tuesday, this time beating Rochester on the road 70 to 42. The Highclimbers started the game with a 7-0 run and built a 19-point first quarter lead. The ‘Climbers extended their lead to 31 in the second quarter and the difference stayed around 30 points (between 24 and 34) for the remainder of the game. Cedar Wily led Shelton with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Janelle Krise added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. And Ashlei Borden chipped in 8 points. The Highclimbers are 4-and-0 on the season and head to Sitka, Alaska for the Sitka High Coastal Holiday Shootout where they will play host Sitka on Thursday, Mountain City Christian Academy on Friday, and Nikiski on Saturday.


The Shelton boys’ basketball team beat Rochester for the second time this season on Tuesday, 49 to 34. The Highclimbers went up 12 points in the first half but the Warriors tied the game twice late in the second quarter and the ‘Climbers went into the locker room with an 18-16 lead at the half. In the third quarter, Shelton would once again go up on Rochester. This time by 13 points. However, the Highclimbers managed to hold off any Warrior runs and went up 18 in the fourth quarter. Sam Parsons led Shelton with 15 pound and 3 steals. Bennett Henry added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Masyn Gard also chipped in 11 points. And Fletcher Henry pulled down 9 rebounds as the Highclimbers swept the two non-conference games with Rochester, improving their season record to 3-and-3. Shelton heads to the Sitka High Coastal Holiday Shootout and plays host Sitka on Thursday, Mountain City Christian Academy on Friday, and Nikiski on Saturday.


The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team picked up its first win Tuesday beating Ocosta 54 to 20. The Owls had three players score in double digits including Cloey Fletcher’s triple double performance: 18 points,11 rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals. Senior Maelynn Nygaard added 17 points and 11 rebounds. And Senior Carissa Reeves open the third quarter with three straight three-pointers on her way to 14 points for the night. The Owls led 10 to 7 after the first quarter and steadily pulled away to a 30 and 10 lead at the half. MMK is now 1-and-3 on the season, 1-and-1 in Coastal League play. Mary M. Knight travels to Tenino Thursday.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team lost to Kingston Tuesday 55 to 47. The Bulldogs had a 10-point lead in the third quarter but the Buccaneers used NM turnovers and three-pointers to comeback in the fourth. Taylor Madison led North Mason in the loss with 12 points, 6 steals and 5 rebounds. Natalya Garcia added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. And Delilah Schmidt finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds. The Bulldogs drops to 2-and-3 on the season, 1-and-2 in the Olympic League. NM plays at Klahowya Wednesday.
