Win for MMK Boys’ Hoops; Loss for MMK Girls’ Hoops
The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team beat Agape Christian Academy 60 to 13 on Monday. The Owls lead throughout the game with three players scoring in double digits: Gabe Walters, Ryder Lake and Hunter Gilmore-Hulford. Walters finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and a block. Lake had 14 points, 7 steals, 3 rebounds, and a block. And Gilmore-Hulford ended up with 14 points, 13 rebounds (7 offensive), and 3 steals. Micah Palmer added 6 points, 7 rebounds, and a steal. And Nolan Baughman chipped in 5 points (including a 3-pointer) and a rebound for MMK. Mary M. Knight improved to 5-and-9 on the season. The Owls travel to Coastal League foe Lake Quinault on Tuesday.
The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team lost to Wahkiakum Monday 43 to 22. Injuries and foul trouble plagued the Owls against the Mules. With senior post Maelynn Nygaard out for the season with a broken hand from Friday’s game against Ocosta, and senior Carissa Reeves dealing with a lingering knee injury that sat her most of the game, the Owls relied on their bench to fill in for the senior players. Head coach Jake Goldy commended his team for their signature tough defense but foul trouble plagued their remaining two seniors and the team couldn’t get their offense going. Before leaving the game with injury, senior Carissa Reeves scored a team high 6 points, 3 rebounds and a steal. Senior Cloey Fletcher added 5 points, 6 rebounds, a steal and a block before fouling out. Junior Bella Buck added 5 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Freshman Peyton Hughes had 3 points, 3 rebounds and a steal. Eighth grader Peyton Gonzales had 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. And Senior Andiana Ziegler added just one point but had 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal for MMK. Monday’s non-league loss drops Mary M. Knight to 8-and-8 on the season. The Owls return to Coastal League play on Friday hosting Wishkah Valley. Tuesday’s MMK girls’ game at Lake Quinault has been cancelled.
