Mason Health will re-open its cafeteria on Monday, Feb. 9, with a new brand as the Mountain View Cafe, layout and internal service upgrades to better accommodate patients, visitors and workforce members. Featured artwork includes a landscape of the Olympic Mountains from local muralist BriAnne Waite and minimalist food photography from artist Jennifer Rutledge, supported through funding from Blue Zones of Mason County.

The new Mountain View Cafe provides affordable, fresh meals that promote healthier eating habits and contribute to the overall well-being of the community. Additionally, the cafe honors favorites like delicious baked goods, clam chowder, prime rib dinner and the popular salad bar. Workforce members will also be able to enjoy a more streamlined experience with a new Express Grab & Go menu and check-out line, designed to help the workforce move through the cafeteria faster.

“We decided to transition from ‘Bistro in the Basement’ to ‘Mountain View Café’ to better connect our name with the stunning Pacific Northwest environment surrounding Mason General Hospital,” said Ashlee Johnson, Culinary & Nutrition Services Manager. “The artwork in the café walls beautifully showcases the four seasons of harvests in this region.”

The cafeteria will feature upgrades for food storage and new registers and payment systems to help process transactions in a timelier manner. The Culinary & Nutrition Services Department has also worked hard at developing new menus for patients at Mason General Hospital, emphasizing local ingredients, reducing processed foods, and expanding vegetarian menu options.

“Our mission is to provide outstanding food and beverage services that defy the common perception of ‘hospital food,’” Johnson said. “We are committed to raising the bar, ensuring that the vision at Mason Health is mirrored in our culinary services. The Mountain View Cafe reflects our commitment to creating a welcoming environment where our community, patients and workforce can connect over fresh, wholesome food.”
