Hoops Wins for SHS Girls & NM Girls & Boys

The Shelton girls’ basketball team wrapped up the regular season Thursday with a 51 to 41 win over Tumwater.

The Highclimbers started the game on a 10-0 run, holding the Thunderbirds scoreless for the first six and a half minutes of the first quarter. The ‘Climbers shot 60% from the field in the first half and build a 12-point lead.

The T-Birds in the third quarter to pull with in a point 33-32 heading into the fourth. Tumwater stayed close to Shelton until late in the game when the Highclimbers’ Rosa Leclair-Hernandez and Bianca Simmons hit crucial baskets helping the ‘Climber pull away from the Thunderbirds for good.

Janelle Krise led the way for Shelton with a double-double: 14 points and 10 rebounds along with 7 assists. Olivia Swanson added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Bianca Simmons finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Rosa Leclair-Hernandez chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds. Sonni Cordova had 5 points and 6 rebounds. And Ashlei Borden scored 5 points.

Tumwater was led in the loss by Cadynce Lee with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Shelton ends the regular season with a 15-and-6 overall record, 6-and-4 in the Evergreen Conference, tied for second place with the Thunderbirds and Black Hills. Since the Highclimbers finished better than fourth in the Conference, they earn a postseason spot and play the number four team from the 3A Greater St. Helen’s League for a spot in the 2026 District 4 3A Girls’ Basketball Tournament. This play-in game is set for February 16th at either Prairie or Heritage.


The North Mason girls’ basketball team ended the regular season Thursday with a 44 to 35 road win at Olympic. The Lady Bulldogs finish with an 8-and-12 overall record, 5-and-9 in the Olympic League. The girls from Belfair now wait to see if they will earn an at-large seed into the 2026 District 3 2A Girls’ Basketball Tournament.


The North Mason boys’ basketball team finished the regular season Thursday with a 71 to 63 win over Olympic. The Bulldogs are now 8-and-12 on the season, 4-and-10 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair now wait to see if they will earn an at-large seed into the 2026 District 3 2A Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
