Hoops Losses for SHS Boys, MMK Girls & Boys
The Shelton boys’ basketball team wrapped up the regular season Friday with a 78 to 48 loss at Tumwater. After the Highclimbers had one-point leads, twice in the first quarter, the Thunderbirds started to pull away with a 10-point lead in the opening quarter, a 13-point advantage in the second, 19 in the third and 30 in the fourth. Shelton was led in the loss by Brayden Phipps’ 14 points. Fletcher Henry added 9 points. Jeremy Myers finished with 7 points. And Bennett Henry and Carter Garcia had 6 points each. The Highclimbers finish the season with an 8-and-12 overall record, 3-and-7 in the Evergreen Conference, tied with Aberdeen for fourth place. Shelton has qualified for the 2026 District 4 3A Boys’ Basketball Tournament Play-In game on February 16th at Kelso.
The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team wasn’t able to catch Taholah Friday in their regular season finale as the Owls lost to the Chitwhins 54 to 44. Taholah built a 15-point lead in the first quarter. MMK cut that to nine by the half. In the third quarter, the Chitwhins went up 14 but Mary M. Knight would again cut that to nine. The fourth saw Taholah go up by 17. This time, the Owls would close to seven points but that was as close as MMK could get. Cloe Fletcher led Mary M. Knight with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals 3 assists, and a block. Bella Buck added 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Carissa Reeves chipped in 6 points, 2 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Payton Gonzales finished with 4 points and 6 rebounds (5 offensive), an assist and a steal. And Maelynn Nygaard had 7 rebounds. The Owls finish the regular season with a 10-and-9 overall record, 5-and-6 in the Coastal League, fourth in the standings. MMK girls open play in the 2026 District 4 1B Girls’ Basketball Tournament Tuesday at Pe Ell. Click here for the tournament’s bracket.
The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team ended the season with an 83 to 26 loss to Taholah Friday. The Owls finishe the season with a 7-and-11 overall record, 1-and-5 in the Coastal League.
