Spring high school sports got underway Tuesday.

The Shelton and North Mason boys’ soccer teams played to a 1-1 ties Tuesday. The Highclimbers scored first when David Mendiola Lopez found the back of the net in the 19th minute. The Bulldogs evened things up on a penalty kick (NM player not identified) in the 67th minute. Both teams open the season 0-0-and-1. Shelton plays at North Thurston Thursday while North Mason holds their home opener Friday at Phil Pugh Stadium against East Jefferson.


The Shelton fastpitch softball team participated in a jamboree Tuesday at the RAC in Lacey. In three innings against Black Hills, the Highclimbers won 11 to 4. However, the Lady-‘Climbers fell to Tumwater 4 to 3 in their next three innings.
Against the Wolves:
Jonni Gouley was 2 for 2 at the plate with a home run, a double, 3 RBI, a walk, and 3 runs scored. Pitched 3 innings, allowed 4 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, no walks and 6 strikeouts.
Hailey Schuffenhauer was 2 for 3 with a home run, 2 RBI, and a run scored.
Makayla Lee was 1 for 1 with a home run, 3 RBI, a walk, and 2 runs scored
Marley Graham was 1 for 1 with an RBI, walk, and run scored.
Rylee Rasler batted in a run.
Against the Thunderbirds:
Casandra Tyler was 2 for 2 at the plate against Tumwater with an RBI.
Emi McFarland was 1 for 2 with a double, RBI and a run scored.
Lexi Rowland was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Kaylee Rix was 1 for 2 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored. Pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits with a walk and 3 strike outs.
Shelton opens the season Friday at home against North Mason on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.


The Shelton baseball team participated in a jamboree Tuesday. The Highclimbers were scheduled to play against Timberline and Elma but no results were reported. Shelton opens the season Thursday at home against Klahowya on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
