Wins for SHS & NM Softball & NM Baseball; Track & Field Results
The Shelton fastpitch softball team opened the season with a 14 to 0 five-inning win at Bremerton Monday. The Highclimbers were led by Hailey Schuffenhauer who was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, three RBI, stole a base and scored a run. Emi McFarland and Jonni Gouley batted in two runs each. And Cassandra Tyler, Abbi Faaula, Paris Mentzer, and Riley Rowland each had an RBI. The Lady-‘Climbers held the Knights to one hit. Gouley struck out five batters in three innings in the pitching circle. Shelton hosts Olympic Wednesday.
The Shelton girls’ tennis team lost to Tumwater on Monday 5 to 1. Singles and doubles results were not available. The Highclimbers host Black Hills Thursday.
The North Mason fastpitch softball team opened the season with a 15 to 0 five-inning win over Eatonville on Monday. The Bulldogs held the Cruisers to one hit. Fiona Youngberg led the girls from Belfair going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and five RBI. The freshman also struck out six and walked three in two innings pitched. Addyson Roy got the win in the pitching circle, however, going three innings, allowing only the one hit while striking out seven. Roy also batted in a run. Other NM players with RBIs: Faith Porter with 3 (including a triple), Sydnnie Imlay with 2 (double), Kennady Carson with 2 (triple), Taylor Madison with 1, and Kaylani Ivie with 1. North Mason opens opens Olympic League play Tuesday at Sequim.
The North Mason baseball team opened the season Monday with a 9 to 2 win over Eatonville. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning and four runs in the second before the Cruisers got on the board in the fourth. NM’s Kingston Serebryakov batted in three runs. Reid Shumaker had two RBI. And Danner Jones and Pauli Calafiore batted in a run each. Jones pitched four innings, allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out eight and walking one. North Mason opens Olympic League play Tuesday at home against Port Angeles.
The Mason County Track and Field Jamboree was held Monday at Highclimber Stadium. This meet featured athletes from Shelton, North Mason and Mary M. Knight. In team scoring, the Highclimbers were at the top with 83 for the boys and 58 for the girls. The Bulldogs were 2nd with the boys scoring 61 and the girls 52. And Mary M. Knight followed with 7 for the boys and 33 for the girls from Matlock.
