History was made Friday as the Shelton fastpitch softball team was shutout by W.F. West 8 to 0.

The Bearcats’ Taylor Tobin pitched a perfect game with no runs, no hits and no errors, retiring 24 Highclimber batters in a row including striking out 14. At the plate, Tobin was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Other standouts for the girls from Chehalis who had nine hits: R Middleton hit a three-run home run; Gracie Elam had a triple and an RBI; A Smitherman hit a double and scored two runs.
W.F. West improved to 6-and-1 in the season, 2-and-0 in the Evergreen Conference. The Bearcats head to Aberdeen on Monday.

Kaylee Rix struck out seven in five and a third innings as Shelton drops to 3-and-2 on the season, 1-and-1 in the EVCO play. The Highclimbers play at Tumwater on Monday.


The Shelton baseball team suffered it’s first loss of the season Friday, falling at Evergreen Conference foe W.F. West 4 to 3.
Tied 2-2 heading into the seventh inning, the Highclimbers took a 3-2 leading when Michael Carlson scored before the half-inning ended with two runners being caught stealing.
In the bottom of the final frame, the Bearcats tied the game on a line drive to left and then walked off with the win when the next batter hit a ground ball to left field.
The ‘Climbers were held to two hits: one by Silas Hoff (who batted in two runs) and the other from Drew Helser.
Shelton is now 4-and-1 on the season, 0-and-1 in EVCO play. The Highclimbers host Aberdeen Tuesday on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.


The Shelton boys’ soccer team lost at W.F. West Friday 2 to 1. Jendri Carrillo scored the Highclimbers’ goal on a penalty kick in the 10th minute. The ‘Climbers now have a 1-4-and-1 overall record, 1-and-1 in Evergreen Conference play. Shelton travels to undefeated Aberdeen Tuesday.


The North Mason boys’ soccer team was shut out at Kingston Friday 3 to 0. The Bulldogs are now 2-3-and-1 on the season, 1-and-3 in the Olympic League. NM plays at North Kitsap on Tuesday.


A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning sent the North Mason fastpitch softball team home Friday with a 5 to 4 loss. The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the first inning when Fiona Youngberg hit a three-run home run with two out. Taylor Madison added a solo shot in the third giving NM a 4-0 lead.
The Trojans then scored three runs in the fourth and forced the extra inning with a run in the bottom of the seventh before the walk-off sac fly.
North Mason is now 2-and-2 on the season. The Bulldogs host East Jefferson Saturday.


The Mary M. Knight baseball team lost to Lake Quinault Friday 15 to 2 in five innings. The Elk held the Owls to three hits. MMK plays at Elma on Monday.
