Win for SHS Baseball; Losses of NM Baseball & Softball, MMK Baseball

The Shelton baseball team capitalized on North Mason miscues Friday and the Highclimbers beat the Bulldogs 2 to 1.

Shelton scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first inning: Carl Turnbow reached on an error to lead off the inning. Michael Carlson followed with a single which advanced Turnbow to second. Turnbow then took third on a wild pitch to Silas Hoff. Hoff grounded into a double play that got Carlson at second and Hoff at first which allowed Turnbow to score.

North Mason tied the game in the top of the fourth: Dylan Prideaux led off the inning with a line drive single. Danner Jones’ sacrifice advance Prideaux to second. Reid Shumaker then popped out. Caden Atencio walked. Calvin Rice then hit a ground ball to left that brought in Prideaux.

The Highclimbers took the lead back (and scored what turned out to be the winning run) in the bottom of the sixth: Silas Hoff reached on a error to lead off the inning. Cam Winans’ sacrifice advanced Hoff to second. Jacob Jacoby followed with a single that sent Hoff to third. The Bulldogs intentionally walked Ryan Brady to load the bases. Gunnar Jensen struck out. Then, with Drew Helser at-bat, Hoff scores on a wild pitch. The inning then ended on Helser’s line-out to second.

Michael Carlson came in to pitch the seventh for Shelton, faced four NM batters, and ended the game with three of the four out.

Highclimber pitcher Kingston Cahoon held the boys from Belfair to one earned run on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in six innings.

Two North Mason pitchers held Shelton to four hits. Danner Jones went five innings, allowing one run on three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Reid Shumaker gave up one run on one hit with a walk and a strike out.

Michael Carlson, Jacob Jacoby, Gunnar Jensen and Zain Harding had hits for the Highclimbers.

Calvin Rice (who had the game’s only RBI), Dylan Prideuax, and Nolan Shumaker had hits for the Bulldogs.

Shelton improved to 5-and-3 on the season while North Mason dropped to 4-and-5.

Both teams are off until April 11th due to spring break.
On that Saturday, Shelton plays Centralia at Cheney Stadium while North Mason hosts Port Angeles.


The North Mason fastpitch softball team was held to three hits by North Kitsap Friday and lost 9 to 0. The Bulldogs also couldn’t overcome Vikings’ pitcher, C Fake’s 14 strikeouts and two walks. NM only had five base runners in the game. Sydnnie Imlay (who hit a double), Kennady Carson, and Zoe Holdorf had hits for the girls from Belfair. Addyson Roy and C Butler drew walks. North Mason drops to 4-and-4 on the season, 1-and-3 in the Olympic League. The Bulldogs are off until April 13th (due to spring break) when the travel to Shelton to take on the Highclimbers on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.


The Mary M. Knight baseball team was crushed by North Beach Friday 24 to 5 in five innings. The Hyaks broke the game open with 15 runs in the third inning while the Owls got their runs in the bottom of that frame. For MMK, Deakyn Bullington batted in two runs. Harley Garcia also had an RBI. Joe Seymour was 2 for 3 with a triple. And Micah Palmer and Cash King had hits for Mary M. Knight. Seymour took the loss on the mound with eight strikeouts. The Owls are winless in four games this season. MMK is off until April 14th (due to spring break) when they host Wahkiakum.
