[VIDEO] Tuesday, the Port of Shelton Commission opened the process to fill a vacancy on the three-member board after last week’s resignation of Dale Elmlund. During a special meeting, Commissioners Dick Taylor and Kristy Buck started the 15-day application period by making two nominations based on interest received following Elmlund’s resignation. However, only one of those individuals resides in the Port District.
After Tuesday’s meeting, the Port did receive several other nominations. Any registered voter, living in the Port of Shelton’s district boundaries, is eligible to submit a letter of interest to the Port for the vacant Commissioner seat. Deadline to submit a letter of interest is 4 PM May 13, 2026.
Letters of interest should be emailed to [email protected] or dropped off at the Port’s office, 21 West Sanderson Way in Shelton. The vacancy notice is below:

The Port of Shelton Commission will hold another special meeting – tentatively set for 2 PM May 14, 2026 – to possibly hold interviews with the applicants and make an appointment to fill the vacant commission seat.
The Port Commission has 90 days to make an appointment. If the Port Commission fails to meet that 90-day deadline, the appointment would go to the Mason County Commission which would then have 180 days to fill the seat. If the County Commissioners don’t make an appointment, then the responsibility would go to the Governor.
