Candidate Filing Week begins at 8 AM on Monday, May 4, 2026. Declarations of Candidacy and full payment must be received by 5 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026. During the filing period, eligible residents can declare candidacy for seats ranging from precinct committee officers to U.S. House of Representatives.

Candidates can register online, by mail, or in person.

Requirements to File
- Be registered to vote in the district for which you are filing and meet any residency requirements
- Complete a Declaration of Candidacy Form
- Pay Filing Fees (if applicable):
o Debit / Credit Accepted – Visa, MasterCard, or American Express (service/process fee may apply)
o Cash Accepted – Only in Person
o Check Accepted – By Mail or In Person
o Payment must be received before the Declaration of Candidacy is processed
o Filing fees are not refundable, even if you withdraw your candidacy - Provide a valid personal or campaign email address (RCW 29B.45.010) (Cannot use a work-related email or address of a public office or agency.)
- Submissions and Payments must be received by the elections office during Candidate Filing Period
- Late submissions will not be accepted.

Withdrawal of Candidacy
To withdraw as a candidate, you must complete the Withdrawal of Candidacy form and return it in person, by email or fax and it must be received by 5:00 PM, Monday May 11.
Order of Names on the Ballot – Lot Draw
The lot draw will be conducted in the Vote Center at 411 N 5th St, (Second Floor) Shelton, after the close of filing on Friday May 8.
- Numbers will be drawn at random to determine the order of candidate names on the Primary Election ballot. The lot draw order will apply to all races in the election
Offices in a Primary Election
Partisan Office – in the Primary Election regardless of the number of candidates filed unless the office is an unexpired county race.
Nonpartisan Office – three or more candidates filed, will be in the Primary Election. The following races skip the Primary Election: Cemetery, some judicial districts, any unexpired county partisan race with one candidate filed and PCO with only one candidate filed.
