Mason Health Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Karl Nelson to the Foundation’s Board of Directors. He brings a wealth of professional experience and a strong commitment to service that will help advance the Foundation’s mission of supporting exceptional health care for Mason County residents.
Nelson joins the Foundation board following a distinguished career in business leadership and nonprofit service. Originally from Florida’s Gulf Coast, Nelson completed a master’s degree in business administration in 1983 from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He then launched a successful career in direct marketing in Connecticut, where he spent more than two decades helping lead organizational growth and innovation. Later, he relocated to the Pacific Northwest to join World Vision, where he served in a leadership role. Nelson describes his time with the international humanitarian organization as especially meaningful because every aspect of the work supported the health, education and well-being of children around the world.
Nelson and his wife, Lisa, a retired nursing instructor who taught at several Washington community colleges, made Union their permanent home after purchasing a second residence there in 2016 and eventually deciding to retire in Mason County. Today, Nelson serves as a chaplain with North Mason Regional Fire Authority, providing support to first responders and community members during times of need. He also enjoys writing and creating music by composing and mixing organ work.
Introduced to Mason Health Foundation through fellow board member Beth Gregg, Nelson was inspired by the opportunity to support initiatives that directly improve the health and well-being of local residents and is eager to contribute his leadership experience to the Foundation’s work.
“We are excited to welcome Karl to the Mason Health Foundation Board of Directors,” said Mason Health Chief Development & Communication Officer Jennifer Capps. “His diverse professional backgrounds, commitment to service and passion for strengthening our community will be tremendous assets as we continue investing in the health and well-being of Mason County.”
