Travelers who use State Route 3 between Belfair and Bremerton should plan for daytime road work.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will reduce the highway to one lane. Flaggers will alternate travelers one lane at a time near Sunnyslope Road.

People are encouraged to check the WSDOT app and statewide travel map before heading out the door and add 15 minutes travel time to adjust for delays.

What’s happening
The lane closure allows crews to complete curb work, sign installation and landscaping around the new fish passage culvert. Crews need daylight to do the work near a steep hillside.

This work is one of the last major steps before construction is largely complete at this location. Crews are scheduled to add plants along the stream in October.

Travelers can find the latest schedule information on the project webpage.

This work is part of a fish barrier removal project in Gorst and Port Orchard.

Whenever near work zones please:

  • Slow down – drive the posted speeds, they’re there for everyone’s safety.
  • Be kind – workers are out there helping to keep everyone safe and improve the roadways.
  • Pay attention – both to workers directing traffic and to fellow travelers.
  • Stay calm – expect delays, leave early or take alternate routes if possible.
