A Mason County man who was once the president of the Belfair Elementary Parent Teacher Association has been arrested on child pornography charges. Last Friday, the FBI arrested David Michael Navarro, 37 of Belfair, after videos of a child being raped posted on the internet were linked to him. Police in Australia and Denmark, investigating child porn cases, found the videos and determined through GPS one was created at the school. Investigators also say the videos were uploaded from Navarro’s email address. Multiple reports (in the Seattle PI, KOMO TV & KING TV) say the victim is an eight-year-old girl and it is presumed Navarro participated in the sexual assault although not confirmed by authorities, according to the Kitsap Sun. Navarro is being held in the federal detention center in SeaTac on suspicion of production, distribution and possession of child pornography. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen Strombom. Navarro was accused of child sex crimes in San Diego in 2009 but those charges were dismissed. North Mason School District officials told KING 5, Navarro was an active PTA member and volunteer at the school. The District does do background checks on all volunteers but since Navarro was never convicted of a crime he passed the check. The investigation continues.
