The North Mason football team came from behind to win the 2nd Mason County Cup Friday night over Shelton 20 to 10.
The Highclimbers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by Brian Nault and a 25-yard field goal by Gordon Henry. Bulldogs answered with a 72-yard touchdown pass from Matt Becker to Daniel Buurgraff late in the first quarter and Tommy Marsh had a four-yard TD run in the second as the boys from Belfair took a 14-10 lead at the half. The third quarter was scoreless as both teams moved the ball well from time to time only to see the other team’s defense step up to end any scoring threat. In the fourth quarter, after North Mason stopped Shelton’s rally, Marsh ran 23-yards for his second touchdown of the game and put the Mason County Cup in the hands of the Bulldogs.
Statistically, the game was even: North Mason finished with 284 yards of offense (156 passing; 128 rushing) and Shelton had 294 yards of offense (91 passing; 203 rushing). Statistics thanks to Gerry Apple
