A Level 1 sex offender has registered as Transient/Homeless in both Shelton and Belfair. According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Derek Alan Levasseur was recently released from custody and is required to register as a sex offender due to a 2013 conviction of Rape of a Child 3rd Degree and Communication with a Minor for Immoral Purposes. This conviction stems from Levasseur, at age 21, sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl on multiple occasions. The Sheriff’s Office has assessed Derek Levasseur as a Level 1 Sex Offender – the lowest level – and he is considered at a low risk to re-offend. Derek Alan Levasseur is a white male, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. And again, Levasseur has as “Transient/Homeless within the Shelton and Belfair areas of Mason County.” Homeless sex offenders are required to check in with the Sheriff’s Office every Monday.
