The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County during the week of July 12, 2015 through July 18, 2015.
CONSTRUCTION
Highway 3 – Belfair Area – Widening and Safety Improvements
DESCRIPTION: Extend the center turn lane and provide paved shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of SR 3.
LOCATION: From milepost 25.3 to milepost 27 between Theler Center and Ridge Point Blvd.
EXPECT: Daytime traffic shifts and night one-way alternating traffic.
U.S. Highway 101/ 2.2 miles South of Beacon Pt Road – Emergency Slope Stabilization
TIME/DAYS: Around-the-clock one-way alternating traffic.
DESCRIPTION: Crews will repair the hillside below US 101 after heavy rains damaged the northbound land and shoulder.
LOCATION: Northbound at milepost 316.5.
EXPECT: Drivers will encounter up to 15-minute delays each weekday as crews build a work zone. After the work zone is created, drivers will continue to see the highway reduced to one lane of alternating traffic. Crews will install an automated traffic signal that will help improve the flow of traffic.
MAINTENANCE
Highway 3, Bayshore
TIME/DAYS: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 14.
DESCRIPTION: Asphalt preservation.
LOCATION: Both directions from milepost 6.5 to 7.
EXPECT: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Highway 3, Deer Creek
TIME/DAYS: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 15.
DESCRIPTION: Asphalt preservation.
LOCATION: Both directions at milepost 9 near East Agate Road.
EXPECT: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Highway 3, Belfair
DESCRIPTION: Utility crews will install water services.
LOCATION: Both directions from north of Old Belfair Highway to north of NE Clifton Road, mileposts 26.3 to 26.7.
EXPECT: From 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, drivers can expect shoulder closures in both directions as needed. From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Mondays through Thursdays, drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic and/or a traffic shift.
U.S. Highway 101, Kennedy Creek
TIME/DAYS: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 13.
DESCRIPTION: Asphalt repair.
LOCATION: Southbound milepost 356.1.
EXPECT: Left lane closure.
U.S. Highway 101, Kennedy Creek
TIME/DAYS: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 15.
DESCRIPTION: Asphalt repair.
LOCATION: Northbound milepost 358.5.
EXPECT: Right lane closure.
U.S. Highway 101, near Mason-Jefferson County line
TIME/DAYS: Around-the-clock lane closure until further notice.
DESCRIPTION: Rain-damaged northbound shoulder.
LOCATION: Northbound at milepost 316.5.
EXPECT: One-way alternating traffic and speed limit reduced to 25 mph. An upcoming WSDOT project will make permanent repairs. After permanent repairs are made, both lanes of traffic and the speed limit will be restored.
Highway 300, Belfair
TIME/DAYS: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 15.
DESCRIPTION: Asphalt repair.
LOCATION: Both directions from milepost 2.5 to 3.5.
EXPECT: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Tips for Driving Through Work Zones
Pay attention – Driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.
Leave room between you and the car ahead of you – Most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively – be aware of what is happening around you.
Merge into the proper lane before you reach the work zone–
Don’t use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.
