The Shelton City Commission is close to adopting regulations that will govern temporary homeless camps in the City. The City has been working on these regulations for over a year and the latest revisions have been reviewed extensively by Shelton Poverty Advisory Committee (which is referred to as the Human Services Committee in staff’s report). Steve Goins, Director of Community and Economic Development for the City, summarizes those revisions:
Goins did have two concerns:
Commissioner Mike Olsen brought up a concern over allowing campfires in these encampments and staff will be checking to see if that is allowable.
The City Commission did hold the first reading of the ordinance creating the regulations for temporary homeless camps. Click here to view staff’s report and the latest regulations. Second reading and adoption are expected at the City Commission’s next meeting, 2 PM Monday, September 14th.
