The Shelton City Commission is considering applying for a grant to assess property in the City for contamination. This grant would come from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and would identify contaminated properties. The grant could then help with cleaning up those properties with the goal of redevelopment and economic growth. The first step in applying for this Brownfield Assessment Grant would be an RFQ (Request for Qualifications) from interested consultants to complete the work. However, Mayor Gary Cronce, who did not attend Tuesday night’s meeting but did email a statement, is opposed to the idea:
