Friday, the membership of the Shelton Mason County Chamber of Commerce heard presentations on transportation projects planned for this year in Mason County. Kevin Dayton from Washington State Department of Transportation, Melissa McFadden from Mason County Public Works, and Dave O’Leary and Steve Goins from the City of Shelton summarized each entity’s upcoming projects.
Dayton first talked about the State’s 49.4 cents per gallon gas tax:
He then showed a map of the DOT’s project in the County:
Dayton also talked about future projects including the Belfair Bypass:
McFadden then took her turn showing the County’s projects which include the Hunter Creek Bridge, Carman Road culvert replacement, Matlock Brady Road, Cloquallun Road, sidewalks along Clifton Lane and Simmons Road:
The County also plans on completing overlays on Mason Benson Road and McReavy Road:
McFadden explained why the County chooses to chip seal roads instead of overlays of asphalt:
The County plans to chip seal 16 segments of road in 2016.
The City’s presentation was split between O’Leary and Goins. O’Leary talked about the Street Re-Enforcement Plan, Downtown Creek Sidewalks, Evergreen Safe Routes to School, Lake Boulevard/Pioneer Way, and the Transportation Benefit District:
Goins had more exciting topics including the Downtown Visioning Plan and Shelton Hills. Goins told the membership that the City will be rolling out some demonstrations this year:
